City of Plymouth crews begin collecting bulk leaves Monday, Oct. 19, starting with Area A residents north of Ann Arbor Trail and west of the CSX railroad tracks.

Leaves must be raked to the curb by 7 a.m. that morning, according to the city's leaf pickup schedule. Crews will work through the Area A neighborhood through Friday, Oct. 23.

Each area gets two collection weeks, so residents whose trees haven't fully dropped can catch the second round. Area A's second pickup begins the week of Nov. 16.

The city's schedule divides Plymouth into four zones based on two dividing lines, Ann Arbor Trail and the CSX tracks or Main Street:

  • Area A (north of Ann Arbor Trail, west of CSX tracks): First pickup Oct. 19, second pickup Nov. 16
  • Area B (north of Ann Arbor Trail, east of CSX tracks): First pickup Oct. 26, second pickup Nov. 23
  • Area C (south of Ann Arbor Trail, west of Main Street): First pickup Nov. 2, second pickup Nov. 30
  • Area D (south of Ann Arbor Trail, east of Main Street): First pickup Nov. 9, second pickup Dec. 7

Residents unsure which zone they fall in can check the city's pickup map at the link above.

Crews collect leaves from the curb only. Residents must provide access from the street.

The city's newsletter listed several guidelines to keep collection running safely:

  • Park cars away from leaf piles. Car exhaust systems can ignite dry leaves.
  • Keep leaves off storm drains to prevent street flooding. Clear drains frequently.
  • Place grass clippings, branches, corn stalks, pumpkins, dirt, rocks, firewood, stumps and root balls in a Kraft bag or compost can for regular compost collection. Keep them out of the leaf pile.
  • Place brush chipping limbs in a separate pile away from leaves.

Upcoming community dates: Area B leaf pickup begins Oct. 26. Area C follows Nov. 2.
