City of Plymouth voters can start filling out their absentee ballots for the Tuesday, Nov. 3, general election.

The city clerk's office has mailed ballots to registered absentee voters and is accepting applications at Plymouth City Hall, 201 S. Main St., according to the city's newsletter published Friday, Sept. 25. Voters already on the permanent absentee list will receive a ballot automatically. Statewide, absentee ballot voting began Thursday, Sept. 24, according to the Michigan Secretary of State's office.

Residents who want to watch the city verify its voting machines can attend a public logic and accuracy test at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at the Plymouth Cultural Center, 525 Farmer St. The test covers all electronic voting equipment used across every city precinct.

The test was originally scheduled for Friday, Sept. 25, but was rescheduled, according to a public notice signed by City Clerk M. Brodie and published Thursday, Sept. 24. The notice states the test will demonstrate that vote-tabulation programming meets Michigan election law requirements. The Plymouth Cultural Center is ADA-compliant and handicapped accessible.

Anyone can attend. Questions can be directed to the clerk's office at 734-453-1234, ext. 225 or 234.

The city held a similar test at noon Monday, July 6, at the same location ahead of the Aug. 4 primary election.

Mayor Linda Filipczak and Mayor Pro Tem Joe Elliott also hosted a drop-in Friday, Sept. 25, at Fourgrounds Coffee from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The city described the Coffee with Commissioners event as a casual conversation with no agenda and no formal presentation.

As we reported Sept. 25, Canton Township and Plymouth Township have also mailed absentee ballots for the Nov. 3 election. The statewide general election includes races for governor, attorney general, secretary of state, state legislators and members of Congress.

Monday, Oct. 19, is the last day to register to vote online for the Nov. 3 election. Absentee ballot applications are available online through the Michigan Voter Information Center or in person at City Hall.
