Plymouth Township is accepting applications for its next treasurer, a full-time position paying $120,000 a year, after Bob Doroshewitz announced his retirement.
The application window opened Thursday, Oct. 15, and closes Thursday, Oct. 29, at 4:30 p.m., according to a public notice posted by Township Clerk Kim Gaedeke. Applicants must submit a letter of interest and resume to the clerk's office at 9955 N. Haggerty Road. No email or electronic submissions will be accepted.
The appointed treasurer will serve the remainder of the unexpired term, which ends Dec. 1, 2028, and is expected to start Dec. 14.
Who can apply
Applicants must be U.S. citizens, at least 18 years old, registered voters in Plymouth Township and residents of the township for at least 30 days.
How the board will choose
The Board of Trustees plans to review applications at its Nov. 10 meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Township Hall. Depending on the number of applicants, the board may narrow the pool or conduct interviews that same night, with a possible appointment afterward, according to the notice.
If interviews do not happen Nov. 10, the board will hold them at its Dec. 8 meeting at 6:30 p.m. An appointment could follow those interviews. The process is at the board's discretion.
Candidates should prepare a timed five-minute presentation covering their name, party affiliation and any treasurer or financial and administrative experience. A question-and-answer session with the board will follow.
All meetings and interviews will be open to the public under the Michigan Open Meetings Act.
Board turnover in 2026
Doroshewitz, who has served Plymouth Township since 2004, first as a trustee and then as treasurer, announced his retirement at a June 23 board meeting. He was appointed treasurer in May 2022, according to board minutes.
Four of the board's seven seats have been affected by resignations or retirements announced in 2026, including Doroshewitz's planned departure, The Plymouth Express reported in September.
"Hopefully, I have enough respect on the board that my recommendation will carry some weight," Doroshewitz said in the September profile of his career.
