Basement Burger Bar opened earlier in 2026 at 42452 Ford Road in Canton, adding a build-your-own burger menu with more than 1.5 trillion possible combinations to the Canton Corners shopping center.

The restaurant, at the corner of Ford and Lilley roads, is the third Metro Detroit location for the brand founded by brothers David and Jamil Azar in downtown Farmington in 2010, according to Eater Detroit. A Greektown Detroit location followed.

Managing partner Patrick Townsend said the ordering process sets the Canton spot apart from a typical burger joint. Servers hand guests a laminated sheet and a dry-erase marker to check off their picks: protein, cooking temperature, bun, cheese, spreads and toppings.

"First, our menu is really unique," Townsend told the Ford Road District. "We're big on building your own. So when you come in, you're greeted by the waitstaff/server who is going to take care of you. The first thing they ask is if you've been here before."

The menu runs deep.

Protein choices range from American bison and Wagyu Kobe-style beef to a black bean patty and Impossible Burger, with more than 10 options total. Buns include brioche and pretzel, and the cheese list features smoked gouda, feta and spicy jalapeño jack.

Beyond burgers, guests can build their own salads and hot dogs, order appetizers like Greek Town Fries topped with lamb and Frickles (Italian-breaded pickle spears), and choose sides including beer-battered fries, tater tots, sweet potato fries and Detroit chili.

The Canton location also features a full bar with 10 beers on tap and a large bottle list. Made-to-order milkshakes are available at the Canton and Greektown locations but not at the original Farmington restaurant, according to the company's website.

Townsend said some staff members have been with the brand for more than a decade. The restaurant's beef is never frozen and is hand-pattied fresh daily, and produce is locally sourced with daily deliveries, according to the restaurant's website.
