The Canton Public Library wants old yearbooks sitting in your attic.

The library launched a public call on Sept. 1 for donated Plymouth-Canton Educational Park and Plymouth-Salem yearbooks, aiming to fill gaps in its local history collection and replace damaged copies. The library's blog post lists more than two dozen missing years.

Some date to 1950.

The library is seeking yearbooks from 1950 or earlier, 1952 through 1962, 1964, 1965, 1967, 1968, 1971 through 1975, 1980, 1983, 1985, 1990 and 1993. Residents with either Plymouth-Canton or Plymouth-Salem editions from those years are encouraged to reach out.

Several of the missing years predate the P-CEP campus itself, which opened in 1972 as the shared home of what are now Canton, Plymouth and Salem high schools. Yearbooks from before that era would come from predecessor schools in the Plymouth-Canton district. The three high schools on the Joy Road campus together serve roughly 6,200 students each school day, according to Plymouth-Canton Community Schools.

The library said its yearbook collection supports local genealogists and helps connect the community to previous generations. A sample page featured on the blog post shows a spread from the 1973 edition, complete with student photos and an article titled "Canton Pit and Cafeteria Produce Stylized Chaos."

Librarian Manager Amy Lee is coordinating donations. The library asks that residents email Lee at [email protected] before dropping off a yearbook, so staff can check whether that year is already in the collection.
