Canton Public Library's 62 Days of Summer season wraps up this weekend with a backyard blowout on Saturday, Aug. 15, featuring live music, a bounce house, live animals and face painting.
The library's Best Life Team, a staff group known internally as the BLT, spent nearly a year building the 2026 lineup. The team meets twice a month starting each fall to choose a theme, design graphics and map out experiences for patrons of all ages, according to a blog post published on the library's website. Once the calendar is set, librarians schedule events and a call goes out across all departments for volunteers to staff them.
The library noted it takes a village to run the program, with every department pitching in to keep activities running smoothly through mid-August.
The result: something on the calendar almost every day since mid-June.
This summer's highlights included Wings of Wonder Storytimes built around flowers and pollinators, tie-dye sessions, a Hobby Horse Workshop, Plein Air Painting, Dance Your Fanny Off, Pint Size Polkas with a polka musician who traveled from Wisconsin, and Lemonade on the Front Porch. The library also launched its first-ever Summer Adult Meetup series this year, including a Saturday Morning Cartoons session and an End of Summer Celebration on Aug. 13, giving grown-ups dedicated programming without kid logistics.
A World Language Storytime series reflected Canton's diversity, rotating through Spanish, Tamil, Mandarin, Arabic, Kannada and Portuguese across the summer.
