Evan Baker played soccer at Canton High School, earned a scholarship to Madonna University, and built a coaching career that's taken him across the country.
Now the 41-year-old Canton native is using those road miles for something stranger: eating pizza next to oversized lawn skeletons in all 50 states.
Baker, who grew up playing for Canton Soccer Club before starring at Canton High, has hit 14 states so far in 2026 without missing a single weekend, according to a Canton Today profile published July 20. His goal is to complete every state and maintain the every-weekend streak through all 52 weekends of the year.
The whole thing started by accident in October 2025. Baker was driving home from work with a slice of pizza, spotted a giant skeleton on someone's lawn, rang the doorbell, and asked the homeowner if he could eat his pizza there and snap a photo. The homeowner said yes and got a sticker in return. Baker posted the photo on Facebook.
"I was absolutely shocked by the response at first, and a bunch of people online told me I should keep doing it," Baker told Canton Today.
He kept going through Halloween and beyond, stringing together 12 or 13 consecutive weekends by New Year's. In January 2026, he made it official: all 50 states, every weekend, one calendar year.
Baker's day job fuels the travel. He serves as the girls director of coaching at Warriors Soccer Club in Waterford, where he oversees five age-group teams and holds a USSF National A License, according to the club's staff page. Tournament trips give him built-in access to new states, and about eight weeks off during summer provide the window to knock out the bulk of what remains.
In 2025, Baker completed the cross-state gravel grinder bike race from Lake Huron to Lake Michigan, finishing the 204-mile mostly off-road course about a half hour before sunset after six months of training.
Baker fronts the Detroit-area rock band American Arson, signed to Facedown Records, and designs most of the band's merchandise. Those designs kept featuring skeletons eating pizza, which he credits as the subconscious spark for Skeleton Pizza Supply Co., the apparel brand he launched in August 2025.
Community response has been overwhelming. When Baker posted in a Midland, Michigan, Facebook group ahead of a Saturday, January 17, visit, about 200 people responded within the first hour with skeleton locations, Baker told MLive. He's discovered that many homeowners keep their giant skeletons up year-round, decorating them for holidays from Valentine's Day to the Fourth of July.
At 14 states through 29 weekends, Baker would need to average more than one new state per week for the rest of the year to finish on time. He told MLive in January 2026 that he expects Alaska and Hawaii to be the final stops in December 2026.
"Hopefully, I can represent Michigan admirably throughout the process and make some friends along the way," Baker told Canton Today in the July 20 profile.
