Two criminal cases from Plymouth and Canton advanced in Wayne County Third Circuit Court.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office weekly update posted Friday, Aug. 21, listed new developments in both.

Derek Attee Alesmaily of Canton was sentenced Wednesday, Aug. 26, to six to 11 years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of assault with intent to murder.

Christopher Dean Baldwin, 42, of Jackson, who stalked Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and her wife, Plymouth City Commissioner Alanna Maguire, entered a no-contest plea to one count of aggravated stalking on June 4. His sentencing is set for Sept. 11.

Canton stabbing case

Alesmaily, then 23, was charged in connection with the non-fatal stabbing of three family members on Oct. 14, 2025, at a home in the 3700 block of Parklawn Drive in Canton: his 42-year-old mother, 21-year-old brother and 22-year-old sister, according to a Wayne County Prosecutor's Office release. He was arraigned Oct. 16, 2025, in 35th District Court before Judge Michael Gerou, with bond set at $3 million.

On Aug. 5, Alesmaily pleaded guilty to a single count of assault with intent to murder. All other charges were dismissed. He was sentenced Wednesday, Aug. 26, before Judge Miller to six to 11 years in prison, ClickOnDetroit reported.

Plymouth stalking case

Baldwin was charged with two counts of aggravated stalking for targeting Nessel and Maguire at their Plymouth home. He had previously been charged with two counts of misdemeanor stalking on March 7, 2024, but was found incompetent; that case was dismissed March 20, 2025, according to a Wayne County Prosecutor's Office release. He was re-charged March 27, 2025, after allegedly using the couple's home address and Nessel's phone number without permission to receive court documents. Fox 2 Detroit reported that Baldwin showed up at Nessel's Plymouth home on March 5, 2024, ringing the doorbell and sitting on the porch — one day after he attended a Plymouth City Commission meeting where Maguire was present. Baldwin was arraigned March 27, 2025, in 35th District Court with a $200,000 cash/surety bond and a tether ordered if released, according to the prosecutor's release.

"This is criminal behavior and cannot be tolerated," Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a March 2025 release when Baldwin was re-charged.

On June 4, Baldwin pleaded no contest to one count of aggravated stalking. The second count was dismissed. He faces sentencing at 9 a.m. Sept. 11 before Judge Miller.

Neither Maguire nor Nessel has publicly commented on the plea.
