The Plymouth Community Council on Aging's biggest annual fundraiser lands Sept. 16, 2026, and this year's Wild West Hoedown carries extra weight: it will be one of the last major events for director Bobbie Pummill, who is retiring at the end of September after 20 years leading the nonprofit.
The sixth annual Senior Fest Picnic Fundraiser runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the Four Seasons Pavilion in Township Park on Ann Arbor Trail in Plymouth, according to the PCCA's September newsletter. Tickets cost $20 for PCCA members and $25 for non-members.
Entertainer Steven Floyd will perform, Lee's Chicken will provide the food, and the event includes raffles and sponsor giveaways.
Why it matters
The PCCA operates Friendship Station Senior Center at 42375 Schoolcraft in Plymouth, running programs that include fitness classes, lunches, games, workshops and presentations. The organization needs roughly $100,000 a year to keep its doors open, according to ClickOnDetroit reporting in March 2025.
The PCCA receives no federal funding. It relies on grants, donations, Plymouth Community United Way and member fees. Plymouth Township owns the Friendship Station building and covers utilities and maintenance, but the PCCA funds its own programming.
What we're facing right now is nobody has to give us a grant because they want to give you a grant for a project," Pummill told ClickOnDetroit in March 2025. "We don't own this building. We can't add onto it. We can't do that kind of thing. We need it for operations.
Participation has more than doubled in the past seven years, PCCA treasurer Cindy Morency told the Plymouth Township Board of Trustees in April 2025. About 23% of Plymouth Township's population is over 65, and residents 50 and older make up more than a third of the township's total population.
Pummill's farewell
In the PCCA's August newsletter, Pummill wrote that she plans to retire at the end of September 2026, calling her two decades as director "a privilege." No successor has been named publicly.
The PCCA's annual members-only meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 1, at 11 a.m. at Friendship Station, featuring a Q&A with the board of directors. RSVP is required at 734-354-3222.
