The City of Plymouth is telling absentee voters to stop mailing their ballots.

With the August 4 state primary one week away, the city said in its official newsletter posted Monday, July 27, that it cannot guarantee mailed ballots will arrive by the 8 p.m. Election Day deadline.

The deadline is firm. Any ballot received after 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, will not be counted.

The city is directing voters to use the two absentee ballot drop boxes at Plymouth City Hall instead of relying on the postal service. The newsletter urged residents to plan accordingly, saying the city wants all votes to count.

Plymouth Township drop box and early processing

Plymouth Township voters have a separate drop box at the Department of Public Works Recycling Center, 46555 Port St. Township Clerk Kim Gaedeke announced the location at the Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, June 23, after the box was relocated from Risen Christ Lutheran Church.

The township will also conduct early processing of absentee ballots on Monday, August 3, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Plymouth Township Hall, 9955 N. Haggerty Road. Eighteen election inspectors are scheduled for that day, with 20 more assigned to process absentee ballots on Election Day itself, according to the township's public notice.

Other options for City of Plymouth voters

City of Plymouth residents who haven't received an absentee ballot and still want one mailed must submit an application by 5 p.m. on Friday, July 31. Voters who prefer to cast an absentee ballot in person can visit Plymouth City Hall by 4 p.m. on Monday, August 3.

In-person early voting continues at the Plymouth Cultural Center, 525 Farmer St., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Sunday, August 2. On Election Day, all City of Plymouth polling locations are consolidated at the Cultural Center from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The August 4 primary is a partisan election in which voters select one party's ballot; nonpartisan races and proposals appear on all ballots regardless of party choice.
