Canton families looking for homework help can access free, live online tutoring through a Canton Public Library card.

The library's HelpNow by Brainfuse service connects students with tutors in math, science, reading, writing, social studies and test prep for the PSAT, SAT, ACT, AP and state standardized exams. Tutors are available every day, and the service costs nothing for cardholders.

The library highlighted the resource on its blog as a bridge for families waiting for the in-person NHS Tutoring program to launch this school year.

Beyond live homework help, Brainfuse includes a 24-hour writing lab where students can submit essays for feedback. An adult learning center offers GED prep, resume and cover letter help, U.S. citizenship test preparation and Microsoft Office skills courses. A foreign language lab provides Spanish-speaking support.

Cardholders can find the service on the Canton Public Library website under "Research & Learn" in the K–12 educational resources section. Students select their grade level before choosing a subject.

In-person NHS Tutoring also on the way

The library also offers a free in-person tutoring program staffed by National Honor Society students from the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park. The program serves students in grades 3 through 12.

No appointment is needed. Students sign up at the Children's desk on a first-come, first-served basis and receive an uninterrupted 30-minute slot. They may rejoin the queue but are not guaranteed another session.

The library's most recently posted schedule lists hours on Sundays from 1 to 3 p.m., Mondays from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. The program does not run during school breaks, closures or snow days. Because the library has not announced a start date for this school year, families should confirm the schedule before visiting.

The library describes the NHS program as homework help, not advanced instruction or test prep. Students should bring their assignment and any materials they need. Children under 12 must have a parent remain in the library.
