A 42-year-old Canton woman was hospitalized after a car struck her while she crossed Warren Road on the evening of Thursday, Sept. 24.
The crash happened at about 7:14 p.m. near the intersection of Warren Road and Burgundy Street, according to the Canton Township Police Department. A 33-year-old Ann Arbor woman was driving a 2013 red Hyundai Elantra west on Warren Road when the vehicle hit the pedestrian, WDIV reported.
The woman was taken to a local hospital.
Police had not released information about her condition as of Sept. 27. Whether the driver was injured was not confirmed in available reports.
Alcohol and drugs were not factors, police said.
The Canton Township Police Department's Accident Investigation Team, or AIT, responded to the scene, according to WDIV. The specialized unit is made up of trained crash investigators and reconstructionists who handle all aspects of a serious crash scene, according to the department's website.
The AIT is called into action 15 to 20 times per year. It is most commonly deployed for fatal crashes and those involving life-threatening injuries. The team uses electronic measurement tools and evidence-collection equipment, and members often work from the department's Mobile Command Unit.
As of Sept. 27, Canton Township police had not announced a timeline for completing the investigation or whether charges may follow.
The crash comes as pedestrian deaths across Michigan are climbing. Final 2025 data from the Michigan State Police showed pedestrian fatalities rose 18 percent statewide, increasing from 156 in 2024 to 184 in 2025. Overall traffic deaths fell 3 percent during the same period.
Alicia Sledge, director of the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning, said in an Aug. 6 news release that "Michigan made progress in several traffic safety areas in 2025, but increases elsewhere offset some of those gains."
