Brady Weller scored four goals against Belleville, racked up 25 points by midseason and earned the captain's armband for the Canton Cobras this spring.

Not bad for a kid who didn't pick up a lacrosse stick until his freshman year.

Weller, a Canton High School senior known to teammates as "Rusty," grew up on the soccer pitch before discovering lacrosse in 2022. His footwork translated fast. He cracked the varsity starting lineup as a freshman and never left it, spending four seasons in the Cobras' attack.

"I found lacrosse and immediately loved the fast-paced, high-energy style of play," Weller said in the Canton Today profile. "It's like no other sport I've ever played and I fell in love with it."

"Brady is one of the most coachable players I've come across in a long time," Canton head coach Paul Isiminger told Canton Today magazine in a profile published July 20. "He consistently asks thoughtful questions, takes feedback seriously and works to apply it immediately."

As captain, Weller described a pregame ritual that defined his leadership style: the team forms a circle and builds a motivational message together before taking the field. He said being chosen by his teammates was humbling, given the talent on the roster.

Weller credited Isiminger's background in Canton youth lacrosse for strengthening the program's pipeline and building the kind of team chemistry that made his four years memorable.

With his Canton career complete, Weller will enroll at Central Michigan University this fall to study business. He said he chose CMU after visiting campus and liking the atmosphere and the strength of its business program.
