The USNTDP U18s dropped their 2026-27 home opener 10-1 to No. 12 Boston College on Saturday, Oct. 3, at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth.
The lopsided exhibition was the first NTDP game played on USA Hockey Arena's newly renovated ice surface after a summer-long project, according to the USNTDP's preseason announcement. It was also Boston College's first-ever visit to the Plymouth arena.
The U18s struck first. Griffin Storey of Faribault, Minn., buried a goal 3:03 into the opening period for his second of the season, according to the USNTDP game recap. The lead lasted 35 seconds. BC tied it, then scored three more goals before the first intermission, with Eagles center Dean Letourneau scoring twice to make it 4-1.
BC scored six second-period goals from six different scorers, including Letourneau completing his hat trick, to push the score to 10-1. Neither team scored in the third.
Letourneau, a 6-foot-7, 20-year-old forward, was the 25th overall pick by the Boston Bruins in the 2024 NHL Draft. He finished second on BC in scoring last season with 39 points in 36 games, according to NHL.com. BC coach Greg Brown told NHL.com in July that Letourneau's growth has been steady since he skipped junior hockey to join the Eagles as a freshman.
"In practice, you saw some of the abilities and the hockey sense and the skill set that didn't quite translate to the games as a freshman, but you knew that they would," Brown said.
Oscar Hemming and Teddy Mutryn each scored twice for BC, while Matias Vanhanen led all players with four assists and Will Moore added three, according to BC's game recap. The Eagles scored three special teams goals, including a shorthanded tally by Hemming and two power-play goals. Goalies Leo Henriquez and Louka Cloutier split time in net, making seven saves apiece. Henriquez also stopped a penalty shot by USNTDP forward Braden Horton of Souderton, Pa., in the second period.
BC improved to 4-0 all-time against the USNTDP.
The U18s travel to Colorado to face Colorado College on Friday, Oct. 9, and top-ranked University of Denver on Saturday, Oct. 10. The U18s' next home game is Friday, Oct. 16, for Stick It To Cancer Night against the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
