A vacant parcel on Michigan Avenue in Canton could be rezoned from General Industrial to Interchange Service under a proposal heading to a public hearing Monday, Oct. 5.
WB Real Estate Ventures LLC filed the application to rezone parcel 137-99-0027-000 from GI (General Industrial) to C-4 (Interchange Service). The land sits on the south side of Michigan Avenue between Lilley and Haggerty roads and has no street address, according to the township's meeting agenda. The Oct. 5 agenda does not identify a proposed use or development plan for the property.
The parcel has no street address. It is listed only by parcel number, a sign it remains undeveloped.
The rezoning request comes as the Michigan Avenue corridor between Lilley and Haggerty sees new commercial interest. On July 6, the Planning Commission voted 6-0 to recommend approval of a Special Land Use for Kia of Canton for new and used auto sales at 41840 Michigan Ave., on the north side of the same stretch, according to meeting minutes. The WB Real Estate Ventures parcel is on the south side of the same stretch of Michigan Avenue.
Also on Monday's agenda is a site plan amendment for the Target store at 43670 Ford Road, on the north side of Ford Road between Morton Taylor and Sheldon roads. The application calls for façade and signage modifications to the existing building. The township's Planning Services Division, led by Community Planning Manager Patrick Sloan, first listed the application on its Aug. 17 agenda. No details on the scope of the changes appear in the Oct. 5 agenda.
The commission will also take up a zoning ordinance text amendment on fences, walls and borders as old business. That item is limited to setting a date for a future public hearing.
Nine commissioners are listed on the Oct. 5 roll call: Cruz, Foster, Lee, Mallad, Singh, Walther, Watkins, Weber and Chair Zuber. The commission will also approve minutes from its Sept. 14 meeting.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the Canton Township Administration Building, 1150 S. Canton Center Road. Residents who want to speak during the public comment period have three minutes and must provide their name and address for the record. Meetings are rebroadcast on Comcast Channel 12 and Wide Open West Channel 10 on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9 p.m.
