The Canton Township Planning Commission met Monday, July 20, at the Administration Building with four land-use items on its agenda. Votes and final actions have not been posted.

The commission considered zoning text amendments for data centers and carwash establishments, both returning as Old Business after months of discussion. Commissioners have debated potential impacts on water, energy, and noise since at least March. A site plan amendment for Bright Beginnings Learning Center, a daycare at 6512 N. Canton Center Rd., also returned for review. A new text amendment covering fences, walls, and borders appeared for the first time.

No public hearings were scheduled.

"The Township needs clear definitions and thorough due diligence" on data center zoning, Commissioner Jeff Mallad said at the commission's May 18 work session, citing concerns about energy, water, and pollution. Chair Dawn Zuber clarified at that same session that neither amendment aims to ban the uses outright.

Official minutes are expected at cantonmi.gov by Wednesday, July 23. The next regular Planning Commission meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 10. Residents may speak for up to three minutes at meetings by providing their name and address for the record.
