Artists looking for a creative home in Canton Township can submit an interest form for a private studio space at the Arts Warehouse at Cherry Hill, with availability starting in January 2027.
The Arts Warehouse posted the opening on Oct. 6, inviting painters, illustrators, textile artists, glass artists, metal workers, jewelry makers, multimedia creators and others to submit an online interest form. Kevin Ryan, the facility's community program director, authored the announcement.
The 17,500-square-foot warehouse at 50755 Cherry Hill Road already houses more than a dozen studio artists and small businesses. Tenants range from the Cherry Hill Potters Guild to Reigning Motion Dance Company, with classes offered in fine arts, music, pottery, fitness and dance. The facility subsidizes studio spaces for growing artists, according to its website.
The opening is not just about filling a room. Prospective tenants need more than artistic chops. The Arts Warehouse is looking for artists who will participate in open studios, workshops and exhibitions, and who bring what the organization calls a "collaborative spirit." Applicants must show a consistent creative practice and a clear vision for how they'd use the space.
The Oct. 6 announcement does not specify a submission deadline, rental price or studio dimensions. Interested artists can find the interest form on the Arts Warehouse website.
The Arts Warehouse is operated by the Partnership for the Arts & Humanities, a Canton-based nonprofit that acquired the 14-acre Cherry Hill Road property in 2012 and opened the renovated warehouse in March 2020. Canton Township acquired the campus in late 2023, with the partnership continuing to manage operations, according to the warehouse’s About page.
The site carries a piece of local history. According to the warehouse’s history, Ford’s last village-industry operation offered jobs and housing to disabled World War II veterans during the 1940s. Its factory and veterans’ dormitory contribute to the Cherry Hill Historic District’s National Register designation.
Daniel Fisher, board chair of the Partnership for the Arts & Humanities, has written that communities active in the arts develop stronger identities, cope better in times of crisis, find faster paths to economic recovery and see less loneliness among residents. Fisher shared that perspective in a letter on the Arts Warehouse website.
The facility draws more than 10,000 visitors a year and hosts over eight dozen community events and workshops annually, according to its website. The Arts Warehouse can be reached at 734-765-7061.
