Plymouth High School added a second new assistant principal this fall, naming Sonya M. Williams to the role after a hiring stretch that has reshaped the school's leadership team.

Plymouth-Canton Community Schools (P-CCS) announced the appointment on Monday, Sept. 28. The district said Williams brings more than 20 years of experience in education, with a background in instructional leadership and school improvement across elementary and middle school settings.

Williams is the second assistant principal brought on at Plymouth High since August. The P-CCS Board of Education approved Kevin Knierim for an assistant principal position at the school during its Aug. 4 meeting, with an effective start date of Aug. 12.

The district has not said whether the positions are newly created or replacements for departing administrators.

Plymouth High, located on the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park campus in Canton, serves roughly 1,816 students. Two new assistant principals in a single semester is a notable shift for a building that size.

Williams most recently served as a middle school principal at Lincoln Consolidated Schools, where she oversaw school operations, instructional programming and staff supervision. Before that, she held two roles at Ecorse Public Schools: elementary principal and middle school assistant principal. Earlier in her career, she worked as an instructional coach at National Heritage Academies.

Williams holds a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Eastern Michigan University and a State of Michigan School Administrator Certificate.

The district did not announce a start date for Williams. Knierim has been on campus since Aug. 12.
