U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens endorsed Republican Mike Rogers for U.S. Senate on Sunday, Nov. 1, backing him over Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed two days before Michigan’s election.

Plymouth, Plymouth Township and Canton Township voters will join residents statewide in choosing Michigan’s next U.S. senator.

“I am endorsing Mike Rogers for the United States Senate today,” Stevens wrote in a post accompanying her endorsement video.

Stevens also appeared alongside Rogers at Perfecting Church in Detroit, MLive reported.

Democratic leaders respond

Michigan Democratic Party Chair Curtis Hertel responded in a post on X, saying Stevens was not a current member of the state party and would not be one in the future.

U.S. Sen. Elissa Slotkin also addressed Stevens’ decision in a separate post. Slotkin urged politicians to focus on Michigan residents and the election’s stakes rather than themselves, and reaffirmed her support for El-Sayed.

The endorsement followed a dispute over an outside group’s advertisement linking U.S. support for Israel to grocery prices, the Associated Press reported.

Stevens had sought El-Sayed’s condemnation. El-Sayed said his campaign did not produce the advertisement and that he disagreed with its contents.
