Team USA faces Canada at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, looking to even a two-game exhibition series after a 5-3 loss.

The games are preparations for the 2026 IIHF Women’s World Championship, scheduled for Nov. 6-16 in Herning and Esbjerg, Denmark, according to USA Hockey’s tournament updates.

USA Hockey said it expects the Plymouth game to sell out. NHL Network will televise the game live.

Plymouth’s Kirsten Simms attends selection camp

Plymouth native Kirsten Simms is among the players attending Team USA’s selection camp. She grew up playing youth hockey in Plymouth before joining the Little Caesars AAA Hockey Club, according to her Team USA profile.

Simms helped the United States win gold at the 2026 Milan Olympics. She also signed a three-year contract with the Toronto Sceptres of the Professional Women’s Hockey League earlier this month.

USA Hockey invited 31 players to selection camp and can take 25 to Denmark. The final World Championship roster is expected to be announced Saturday, Oct. 31.

Canada won the opener

Canada defeated the United States 5-3 Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the WFCU Centre in Windsor, Ontario. It was the teams’ first meeting since the Olympic gold-medal game, which the Americans won.

Daryl Watts and Caitlin Kraemer gave Canada a 2-0 first-period lead. Hilary Knight scored for the United States in the second, but Rosalie Tremblay restored Canada’s two-goal advantage.

Abbey Murphy and Caroline Harvey scored in the third period to tie the game at 3-3. Sarah Fillier put Canada ahead with 8:15 remaining, and Laura Stacey added an empty-net goal, according to USA Hockey’s recap.

The Americans outshot Canada 26-19. Aerin Frankel made 14 saves, and Knight was named Team USA’s player of the game.

U.S. head coach John Wroblewski has agreed to remain in the role through the 2030 Winter Olympics, USA Hockey announced.

Forward Kendall Coyne Schofield participated in the Plymouth camp but will not travel to Denmark. USA Hockey said she is taking the season off after announcing that she and her husband are expecting their second child.
