A 1-year-old girl was listed in stable condition at a hospital after being shot in the leg early Thursday, Oct. 1, at a Canton Township mobile home park.

Canton police and fire crews responded to reports of shots fired at 12:57 a.m. at the 41000 block of Old Michigan Avenue, in the Manufactured Homes Academy park near I-275, according to Patch. Canton Township Interim Police Chief Joseph Bialy told the Detroit Free Press about 40 gunshots were fired.

Police described the shooting as a suspected targeted attack, FOX 2 Detroit reported.

The girl's grandfather, who was not identified by name, told WWJ Newsradio 950 that five gunmen fired around 50 rounds into the home. Three people were inside at the time, including the toddler. Accounts of the number of rounds fired vary: Bialy said about 40, while the grandfather told WWJ that five gunmen fired around 50 rounds.

The grandfather told FOX 2 he was holding his granddaughter when several individuals walked up outside and opened fire. He said the girl was grazed in the leg and that doctors were evaluating whether she needed surgery.

FOX 2 cameras showed at least 25 bullet holes in the mobile home. The grandfather said he counted about 50. Most of the damage was concentrated on the bedrooms, he said.

Officers treated the child at the scene before the Canton Fire Department transported her to a local hospital, according to a police release cited by FOX 2. She was listed in stable condition.

The Canton Police Department's Detective Bureau is leading the investigation. Police used a K-9 unit to comb the area for evidence on Oct. 1, FOX 2 reported. Canton Township police said the suspects were on the run as of Thursday morning, according to WWJ. No suspect descriptions have been released, and police said they have no information about a motive.
