Nicholas Ivacko, who has worked at Field Elementary since 2017, has been named the Canton school's student support coordinator, Plymouth-Canton Community Schools announced Monday, Sept. 14.

Ivacko served as a classroom teacher and building leader at Field during his nine years there. The district said he played an active role in schoolwide leadership, including serving on Field's equity team and its Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) team. He helped lead efforts to improve student outcomes and shared culturally responsive instructional practices with colleagues and the Board of Education, according to the district's announcement.

The position had been vacant for more than two and a half years. Kristen Schwartz resigned from the coordinator role effective Jan. 31, 2024, according to board meeting records. Field serves 467 prekindergarten through fifth-grade students in Canton.

The district did not explain the gap.

Beyond the classroom, Ivacko hosted instructional rounds for district teachers and served on building and district hiring committees. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education and a teaching major in mathematics. Before joining P-CCS, he worked as a substitute teacher, a student teaching intern and a YMCA child care assistant manager.

Student support coordinators serve across P-CCS elementary buildings. At Gallimore Elementary, the board appointed Zaina Gennaoui to the role in July 2023. At Isbister Elementary, coordinator Joe Bublitz received the Mary Beth Carroll Extra Miler Award at the board's Sept. 24, 2024, meeting for his dedication to students and staff. P-CCS serves 16,083 students across 23 schools districtwide.

The district did not specify a start date for Ivacko's new role or say whether the appointment requires board approval.
