Plymouth-Canton Community Schools announced Wednesday, Sept. 16, that Kristy Kenneally has joined the district as a supervisor of special education, taking on high school-level responsibilities within a department serving roughly 2,300 students district-wide.

Kenneally, who has more than 26 years of experience working with students with disabilities, started in the role Aug. 10 after the Board of Education approved her appointment 6-0 at its Aug. 4 meeting.

She brings experience across elementary, secondary, center-based and transition programs, the district said in its announcement. The district's Act 18 Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) program serves about 140 additional students, according to the P-CCS Special Education department page.

Before joining P-CCS, Kenneally served as director of Lamphere Center in Madison Heights, where she oversaw a county-approved, center-based program for students with significant cognitive, behavioral and communication needs. She also held the roles of special education supervisor and 504 coordinator for Lamphere Schools.

Kenneally spent nearly 20 years before that as a resource room teacher at Northville Public Schools, where she provided specially designed instruction and worked alongside teachers, families and school teams. She began her career as a resource room teacher in the School District of the City of Harper Woods.

She holds an Educational Specialist degree in special education administration from Eastern Michigan University, a Master of Arts in reading and language arts from Oakland University, and a Bachelor of Arts in special education from Michigan State University.

Kenneally joins a seven-member special education team overseeing services for roughly one in seven P-CCS students. The Board of Education next meets Tuesday, Sept. 22.
